Kafka’s Journey

Hidden within a floating island in the sky lies a secluded underground village inhabited solely by the elderly and one young girl named Kafka. Raised collectively by the adults, she was bound by a single, unwavering condition: she must never leave their subterranean home. While her grandfather was alive, this restriction felt like no burden at all. However, following his passing, the village transformed into a stifling cage, and her days grew unbearably dull. Fueled by her late grandfather’s thrilling tales of global adventure, Kafka developed a deep yearning to witness the outside world with her own eyes. Her desire for freedom ignites into urgent action when a visitor from the surface arrives and speaks of life beyond the island's borders. Unable to endure her confinement any longer, Kafka resolves to escape using her grandfather’s old airplane. Despite having never actually flown before, she trusts that everything he taught her will be enough to guide her through the skies. Thus begins an extraordinary journey as Kafka takes flight to broaden her horizons and forge friendships with people her own age. Along the way, she will ultimately uncover the heartbreaking truth behind why her village was severed from the rest of the world.
