When Jonathan Wells inherits his late uncle’s house, he moves in with his family hoping to uncover more about the man he barely knew. His grandmother leaves him a cryptic note explicitly warning him never to enter the basement. However, after an accidental discovery leads him downstairs, Jonathan finds himself inexplicably drawn back, returning to the forbidden space as if under a spell. Far beneath the surface, within a sprawling ant colony, a worker designated Male 327 becomes the first to awaken from winter hibernation. He sets out on a routine patrol alongside his comrades, but disaster strikes when every member of his unit is mysteriously wiped out, leaving him as the sole survivor with no explanation for the massacre. Sensing an imminent threat to his colony, 327 rallies a group of like-minded ants to sound the alarm. Their desperate mission quickly turns into a fight for survival when they are hunted by a terrifying faction known only as the "ants that smell like rocks." Fleeing from these enforcers, 327 ultimately stumbles upon a dark truth deliberately hidden by his own people, setting the stage for an unprecedented clash between two vastly different civilizations.
