Aoki Balkanalia

Set against the harsh backdrop of a sixteenth-century Bulgarian village under Ottoman rule, Aoki Balkanalia follows the struggles of a young girl named Luca. Enduring relentless mistreatment from her adoptive family, she finds her only solace in the unwavering protection of her adoptive brother, Lev. In a world defined by subjugation and cruelty, their bond serves as her sole refuge, offering a fragile sense of safety amid an unforgiving daily existence. This delicate peace is shattered when soldiers from the Imperial army descend upon the village with a chilling objective: to seize young boys for the empire's forces. Despite everything, Lev is torn away from his home and conscripted, leaving Luca entirely alone in a hostile environment that has shown her no mercy. The sudden loss of her protector plunges her into despair, yet it also ignites a fierce determination within her. What follows is the sweeping, fateful journey of two separated souls bound together by a solemn vow. Refusing to accept their forced separation, Luca and Lev cling to a shared promise to reunite, setting the stage for a deeply emotional tale of resilience, devotion, and survival against overwhelming historical odds.
