Bittersweet Nightshade

When Alice is appointed to the Beautification Committee, she anticipates a straightforward role dedicated to improving her surroundings. However, the position introduces an unexpected dynamic when she is paired with Nao, another newly appointed member who has just joined the committee alongside her. From their very first interactions, it becomes clear that working together will require more than simply completing assigned tasks, as the two must quickly learn to navigate each other's personalities in this shared responsibility. Nao is inherently guarded and finds it difficult to open up to others, maintaining a quiet distance that makes collaboration challenging. Her reluctance to engage leaves an emotional barrier between the two new members, transforming what should be routine committee work into a delicate interpersonal puzzle. For Alice, the situation presents a unique dilemma: how does one build trust and foster cooperation with someone who instinctively keeps the world at arm's length? Determined to bridge the gap, Alice must decide how best to approach her reserved colleague without overstepping boundaries or causing further withdrawal. This one-shot explores the subtle nuances of human connection, focusing on patience, empathy, and the quiet efforts required to reach someone who struggles to let others in. As Alice navigates this challenge, the story unfolds through the gentle tension of unspoken feelings and the tentative steps toward mutual understanding.
