Mashima is a young man burdened by a naturally intimidating appearance. Despite possessing genuinely handsome features, his perpetually stern expression and complete lack of a smile cause girls to instinctively keep their distance. His resting scowl inadvertently isolates him, turning what should be an advantage in romance into a significant social barrier that leaves him entirely unapproachable. In stark contrast, Nikawa is a young woman whose outward demeanor projects an aura of constant misery. Rather than focusing on typical teenage concerns, her mind is overwhelmingly consumed by thoughts of food. This single-minded preoccupation with eating gives her such a pitiful presence that boys hesitate to ask her out, unsure of how to connect with someone who always appears so deeply forlorn. Both individuals find themselves romantically isolated due to misleading first impressions—one feared for a face he cannot soften, the other avoided for a melancholic disposition driven by hunger. When these two unlikely outcasts finally cross paths, their unique quirks set the stage for an unexpected connection. The story explores how their initial encounter unfolds and what kind of relationship might blossom between a boy who terrifies everyone and a girl who only ever thinks about her next meal.
