Moromono no Jijou

Set in the twenty-second century, a time when advanced robotics have seamlessly integrated into everyday human life, the story follows a highly unusual machine known as Mono-1. Despite being the newest model on the market, she stands out as a striking oddity among her peers. Rather than possessing vast computational power or pre-programmed expertise, her artificial intelligence functions at the level of a young child, leaving her uniquely vulnerable and entirely dependent on those around her to navigate the complexities of the modern world. Recognizing her unconventional nature, Mono-1’s creator designed her with a specific developmental purpose: to mature organically through careful observation of her surroundings. To facilitate this unique learning process, he entrusts her care to his son, Morohito. Tasked with guiding the childlike robot, Morohito must introduce her to a wide variety of new experiences, serving as both her guardian and her primary teacher. Together, they embark on a quiet but meaningful journey, as Morohito helps Mono-1 observe, understand, and gradually grow within a society that is still learning how to accommodate a robot unlike any other.
