7 Billion Needles

Hikaru Takabe is a teenager who prefers isolation over interaction. Constantly wearing her headphones, she projects an aloof demeanor that alienates her classmates and keeps her firmly on the fringes of school life. However, her deliberate detachment from the social crowd takes on a far more profound meaning when she is suddenly thrust into a high-stakes, intergalactic game of cat and mouse. Drawn into this cosmic conflict, Hikaru finds herself at the center of an extraterrestrial pursuit that transcends anything she could have imagined within the confines of her ordinary routine. The story reimagines the threat of an alien invasion by grounding it in the turbulent, emotionally charged world of a Japanese high school girl, transforming her everyday environment into the backdrop for a sweeping science fiction struggle. Created by Nobuaki Tadano as his debut work, 7 Billion Needles draws its inspiration from Needle, the Golden Age hard science fiction classic authored by the late Hal Clement. By updating the core premise of Clement's celebrated novel, Tadano crafts a distinct narrative that bridges vintage speculative fiction with modern manga storytelling, delivering a fresh perspective on what it means to harbor a cosmic secret while navigating the complexities of adolescence.
