Zatoichi

The manga "Zatoichi" is based on two film adaptations: Zatoichi's Vengeance and Zatoichi's Pilgrimage. In "The Ballad of Zatoichi," the titular blind swordsman crosses paths with a dying man who asks him to deliver a bag of money to "Taichi," a young boy whose life Zatoichi later helps save from a gang of harassers. Along the way, he befriends a blind monk who challenges his brutal way of life, forcing Zatoichi to choose between his solitary path and defending the town. In "Zatoichi's Pilgrimage," Zatoichi is ambushed in a village terrorized by thieves and kills a young man in self-defense. His subsequent travels lead him to Okichi, the sister of the deceased, who initially seeks revenge but eventually falls in love with the blind swordsman as she tends to his wounds.
