Summary

Official Details
The Last of the Mohicans is a manga adaptation of James Fenimore Cooper’s classic novel, created by Shigeru Sugiura. Originally published in 1953, this early version sold over 60,000 copies and helped establish Sugiura as one of the most prominent children's manga artists of the decade. In 1974, following a period of diminished popularity and a subsequent artistic resurgence, Sugiura completely reworked the adaptation using his newly developed surrealistic, collage-like style. This 1974 iteration is widely celebrated as a masterpiece of postwar Japanese comics, renowned for being as visually striking as it is engaging to read. This PictureBox edition marks the first book-length English publication of Sugiura’s work. It has been edited and translated by Ryan Holmberg, who also provides an introduction to the text. The release serves as the inaugural volume in the Ten Cent Manga series, a collection dedicated to highlighting mass-produced genre works from Japan's postwar comic era.
