Traveling Girl

Maki is an incoming freshman preparing to enroll at Shirotou High School, an institution widely celebrated for the strength of both its girls' and boys' basketball programs. Eager to join the girls' team, she visits a local sporting goods store the day before classes begin to purchase a new pair of basketball shoes. While browsing, her attention is drawn to one of the store's employees, who steps in to help her find the perfect fit. During their conversation, the young man casually reveals that he plays for Shirotou's boys' basketball team. The exchange remains friendly until Maki enthusiastically mentions that she will be joining the girls' squad. At this revelation, his warm demeanor vanishes instantly. His smile fades, and he coldly instructs her never to act familiar with him if they happen to cross paths on campus. Left bewildered by his sudden hostility, Maki is forced to wonder what dark secret or unspoken tension lies behind the school's prestigious athletic reputation.
