Icaro

Icaro is a fast-paced science fiction manga that stands alongside genre-defining works such as Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Clamp’s celebrated sagas. The story centers on a young man named Icaro, who possesses the extraordinary ability to fly. Trapped within a vast, oppressive advanced research facility, he has been reduced to a mere test subject. The scientists controlling the laboratory are determined to keep him imprisoned for study, deploying every resource at their disposal to ensure he never escapes his confinement. His desperate fight for freedom is aided by Yukiko, a courageous young woman willing to risk her life—and far more—to help Icaro realize his dream of flight beyond the facility's walls. Her profound sacrifice fuels his quest, transforming their struggle into one of the most inspiring narratives in the medium. Driven by Jiro Taniguchi’s masterful visual storytelling, which brilliantly captures the sheer scale and suffocating atmosphere of the high-tech prison, the series delivers a mind-bending adventure. As a landmark collaboration between Eastern and Western creators, it remains a significant milestone in original manga storytelling.
