Set in an era twelve thousand years ago during ancient times in Japan, humanity lived in close proximity to the divine. Takano, a young village boy with a deep reverence for the invisible gods, finds an abandoned infant and decides to adopt her. Naming her Tojiko, he raises her lovingly as his younger sister. Seven years pass in relative peace until tragedy strikes their settlement. An unseen, malevolent deity known as Ijin launches a devastating attack on Takano’s village. In the wake of the destruction, Takano, Tojiko, and Aohiko—a figure who serves as an older brother to Takano and his peers—narrowly escape death when they are rescued by the devoted followers of Yagami, a benevolent and visible god.
