Ekiben Hitoritabi

Daisuke Nakahara is a man defined by his deep passion for two things: Japan’s railway stations and the regional boxed meals, known as ekiben, sold on their platforms. For him, every train journey represents an opportunity to experience the unique culinary traditions of different prefectures. To celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary, his wife Yuko presents him with an extraordinary gift that perfectly aligns with his lifelong interests—a solo trip traveling across the entirety of Japan. Armed with this thoughtful present, Daisuke begins his nationwide adventure by boarding the Fuji, a special express Blue Train renowned for its classic long-distance routes. What follows is far more than a simple vacation; it is a dedicated gastronomic expedition designed to explore the diverse flavors found along Japan's railways. Each station stop promises a new regional specialty waiting to be discovered and savored. The first destination on his itinerary is the southern island of Kyushu. As the train carries him toward this vibrant region, Daisuke prepares to immerse himself in the local culture through its distinctive station bentos, turning a celebratory anniversary gift into an unforgettable, mouthwatering pilgrimage across the country.
