Most people dismiss these minor discrepancies as lapses in memory. For twenty-one-year-old Youko, however, they are the traces of her hidden existence. Having vanished from her former life, she now survives by slipping unnoticed into the homes of others during their absence, drifting from one apartment to the next according to her needs and whims. At first, this secret lifestyle feels carefree and thrilling. But Youko soon discovers that she is not alone. Beneath the surface of everyday society lies a violent parallel world inhabited by those who have slipped through the cracks—fugitives, criminals, and ordinary citizens who turned their backs on conventional life for reasons both honorable and desperate. Known as "leeches," these clandestine inhabitants claim empty houses as their nests, sparking brutal territorial wars and bloody vendettas that frequently end in slaughter. What began as a quiet escape quickly becomes a fight for survival, as Youko realizes that the unseen spaces she calls home are battlegrounds ruled by violence and desperation.
