Marie Alex

The burden of negligence invariably falls upon the servant rather than the master. Such is the harsh reality for Marie, who finds herself unjustly condemned to bear the punishment meant for Lady Alex, a young noblewoman utterly lacking in academic aptitude. As the heavy hem of Marie's long skirt is lifted to reveal her delicate, porcelain legs, the relentless whip slices sharply through the air, leaving agonizingly red welts across her thin skin. Yet, amidst the cruelty of the undeserved torment, an unexpected realization takes hold. As the observer watches poor Marie suffer, an overwhelming impulse arises to step forward and halt the violence. But confusion quickly follows the intervention. Something feels profoundly strange and entirely unanticipated. Why, in the midst of this harrowing ordeal, is there a sudden, undeniable pounding within the heart?
