Butterfly Storage

In this world, death triggers a supernatural phenomenon: the human soul departs the body in the form of a butterfly, leaving the physical remains to rapidly decay. Fourteen years ago, Ono lost his entire family in a devastating plane crash. Yet one heartbreaking anomaly remains—his twin sister Senri’s body never deteriorated. During the accident, a mysterious figure stole the butterfly containing her soul, trapping her in a permanent vegetative state. Determined to reclaim what was taken, Ono enlists in the Death Bureau, a renowned government agency tasked with capturing, preserving, and managing these spectral butterflies before they vanish forever forty-nine days after their host's passing. Through the Bureau's advanced technology, preserved souls can be temporarily manifested as three-dimensional holograms, allowing grieving families to communicate with their departed loved ones one final time. For Ono, however, this role is far more than a duty; it is a desperate mission to recover Senri’s stolen soul, uncover the truth behind the tragedy, and finally wake his sister from her endless slumber.
