To Strip the Flesh

To Strip the Flesh is a poignant anthology of six short stories that examines the layers one must shed to uncover their authentic self, ultimately celebrating the profound beauty of living truthfully. At the heart of the collection is Chiaki Ogawa, a protagonist who has never wavered in his sense of identity, even as the world around him refuses to offer the same acceptance. Despite society's harshness, Chiaki remains anchored by a solemn promise made to his late mother: to care for his ailing father and fulfill the role of a dutiful daughter. For years, Chiaki bears this heavy expectation, sacrificing his own comfort to honor his family's wishes. However, as the emotional weight of living a life misaligned with his true nature becomes unbearable, he reaches a breaking point. Driven by an urgent need for authenticity, Chiaki embarks on a courageous journey to remake himself entirely on his own terms. Through his transition, he discovers far more than mere personal liberation. By finally stripping away the false roles imposed upon him, Chiaki uncovers something deeply unexpected—a genuine, heartfelt understanding from the people who matter most in his life.
