Till the End of the Night

Every night, Hiura is haunted by the exact same vision the moment he falls asleep. In this recurring dream, he finds himself lying in bed beside another man, caught in an intimate scenario that defies everything he believes about himself. The figure sharing his sheets is unmistakably Kageyama, a former classmate who now works as a lawyer. Despite the vividness of these nocturnal encounters, Hiura holds onto the conviction that Kageyama is the only true friend he has ever had. Yet, the prospect of this dream bleeding into reality is complicated by several insurmountable obstacles. First and foremost, Hiura does not consider himself gay, making the romantic nature of the visions deeply unsettling to his waking identity. Furthermore, their real-world relationship has never crossed such boundaries; the two men have never even spent a single night together outside the confines of Hiura’s subconscious. Most troubling of all is a grim uncertainty that looms over their connection: there is a very real possibility that Kageyama is already dead. Caught between longing, denial, and grief, Hiura must navigate a fragile existence where his deepest nighttime fantasies are shadowed by an irreversible daytime truth.
