Route 225

Told through the perspective of fourteen-year-old Eriko, Route 225 follows a young girl thrust into sudden responsibility when her parents mysteriously vanish. Left entirely in charge of her younger brother, Daigo, she must navigate the challenges of their absence while desperately searching for answers. Unlike many stories where missing parents serve as mere background detail, their disappearance forms the central driving force of the narrative, shaping every decision the siblings make. The truth behind the vanishing is far stranger than anything Eriko could have anticipated. Her mother and father have somehow been transported to an alternate world, separated from their children by an incomprehensible divide. Yet, despite being trapped in this parallel reality, they manage to send cryptic messages back to Earth, dialing through to mobile phones with fragmented clues about their situation. These haunting calls become the siblings' only connection to the parents they lost. This extraordinary premise elevates the story far beyond conventional youth fiction, offering a remarkably fresh angle on the genre. The manga’s compelling blend of everyday sibling struggles and otherworldly mystery ultimately earned it a live-action film adaptation, cementing its status as a truly unique narrative experience.
