Icons are far more than simple works of art. These intricate paintings conceal complex layers of iconography, embedding hidden meanings within their backgrounds and depicted objects. Chikage, a young woman who has spent her time in England studying the nuanced discipline of iconography, is suddenly called back to her homeland of Japan after learning of her grandfather’s passing. Upon returning, she visits the art gallery now managed by her grandmother, where she is presented with an unexpected and daunting request. She is asked to appraise and judge a mysterious pair of paintings that have recently come into the gallery's possession. As Chikage applies her specialized expertise to examine the artworks, she begins to uncover unsettling truths lurking beneath the surface of the canvas. These pieces are not ordinary acquisitions. They are, in fact, stolen works burdened with a deeply sinister history. What was meant to be a straightforward evaluation quickly spirals into something far more dangerous, drawing Chikage into a web of dark secrets that the paintings were designed to hide. As she delves deeper into the true nature of these stolen masterpieces, she must confront the grim legacy they carry before its shadows consume everything around her.
