Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Kokorowa Rice Cultivation Diary

In her relentless pursuit of authentic material for her upcoming literary work, Kokorowa recognizes that mere observation will no longer suffice. To craft a truly compelling new book, she must immerse herself in unfamiliar challenges and gather firsthand experiences that can breathe life into her writing. Driven by this artistic ambition, she sets her sights on a demanding endeavor far removed from her usual pursuits, choosing to undertake the rigorous art of agriculture as both a personal trial and a wellspring of creative inspiration. Her journey leads her to Hinoe Island, where she commits herself to the intricate and labor-intensive process of rice cultivation. Far from a simple pastime, tending to the paddies requires patience, physical endurance, and a deep understanding of the natural world. As Kokorowa works the soil and nurtures the crops through their delicate growth cycles, she finds herself transformed by the rhythms of island life. Each stage of the harvest offers not only sustenance but also profound lessons, providing the rich, lived experiences she so desperately needs to complete her manuscript.
