Hayashi Seiichi Collection: Naoki Matayoshi to Yomu

Curated by acclaimed contemporary writer Naoki Matayoshi—arguably Seiichi Hayashi’s foremost modern devotee—*Hayashi Seiichi Collection: Naoki Matayoshi to Yomu* casts a fresh, illuminating light on a groundbreaking body of work, framing these visionary pieces as timeless poems of youth. As a defining manga artist of the legendary avant-garde magazine *Garo*, which anchored the turbulent counterculture movement of the late 1960s, Hayashi rapidly emerged as a cultural darling. His pioneering creations seamlessly fused lyrical poetry with visceral action drama, blended indigenous aesthetics with pop art, and bridged cinematic and theatrical sensitivities with deep poetic expression. This thoughtfully curated anthology captures a transformative era of artistic boundary-pushing and fresh expressive horizons. Featuring ten remarkable stories—including the landmark inclusion of *Akai Enamel Kutsu* in its very first collection—this volume celebrates the enduring legacy of an artist who forever altered the landscape of visual storytelling.
