Curious Tales of a Temple

Adapted from a celebrated collection of classical Chinese short stories, Curious Tales of a Temple follows the scholar Pu Songling during a fateful overnight stay at Lanruo Temple. His rest is abruptly interrupted when he is captured by two monstrous beings—a Toad and a Turtle—and dragged down to the bottom of an ancient well. There, in the dark depths, these creatures force him to stand trial, judging the quality of his tales to determine his fate. Within the eerie confines of the temple, the well, and a nearby tree, iconic narratives unfold one after another, reflecting the unpredictable vicissitudes of human life. Classic chapters such as The Taoist Priest of Mount Laoshan, Lotus Princess, Nie Xiaoqian, Painted Skin, and Lady Lu are brought vividly to life through six distinct storytelling styles. Together, they weave a breathtaking audiovisual feast filled with the bizarre, the deeply emotional, and the profoundly destined.
