A devastating fire reduces a family carpentry business to ashes, claiming the lives of its owners and leaving their son, Shigetsugu, to inherit the ruins. As a young master carpenter, he faces the monumental task of resurrecting an enterprise that now teeters on the brink of collapse. Guided by his late father’s enduring philosophy—that compassion and dedication must remain paramount regardless of how the times change—Shigetsugu resolves to rebuild both his livelihood and his legacy from the ground up. His solitary struggle takes an unexpected turn with the sudden arrival of Ritsu, a housemaid who has no family or support system of her own. She does not come alone; trailing behind her is a group of displaced children from a welfare facility who have nowhere else to go. Bound together by shared hardship, this unlikely household forms around the bearded young carpenter. Together, they navigate the overwhelming challenges of survival and reconstruction, forging a dramatic, last-ditch fight for a meaningful way of life built on resilience, responsibility, and human connection.
