The Ootsuji Detective Agency is struggling to stay afloat, forcing its lead investigator, Sotaro, and his young assistant, Saki, to accept any available work regardless of the danger involved. While the city above celebrates festival season, a disturbing pattern of unexplained disappearances unfolds beneath the surface. A journalist approaches Sotaro with a case that points toward the Dark, a sprawling and lawless labyrinth serving as the city’s physical, social, and moral underworld. Hoping to avoid the perilous assignment himself, Sotaro delegates the investigation to Saki. However, his relief quickly turns to regret when the young assistant vanishes just like the others. Bound by duty and guilt, Sotaro is forced to descend into the treacherous depths of the Dark to find her. His search plunges him into direct conflict with the subterranean world's most dangerous factions, including the vicious Laughing Masks gang and a rogue police unit commanding the terrifying Demon 463 armored train. To rescue Saki, Sotaro must navigate this anarchic underground and survive the lethal threats lurking within its shadows.
