The Concierge

"The word 'no' does not exist in a concierge's dictionary." This demanding rule defines the new role of Akino, an anxious saleswoman at the elegant and expansive Hokkyoku Department Store. Far from an ordinary luxury retail space, the store caters exclusively to animal clientele, with extinct species treated as the most valued patrons. From sea minks and laughing owls to Japanese wolves, the guests arrive with extraordinary needs. Among them is Mr. Woolly, an enormous mammoth and celebrated sculptor whose magnificent works are showcased throughout the building. Akino quickly finds her hands full navigating a wide array of challenging requests, ranging from sourcing hard-to-find merchandise to resolving complicated matters of the heart. As an inexperienced employee, she must fulfill every whim and exceed expectations to keep her position. Her efforts unfold under the constant scrutiny of Mr. Toudou, a fussy floor manager, alongside a creepy consultant eager to downsize the staff. Even the store’s enigmatic president—who is notably not a penguin—keeps a watchful eye on the floor, ensuring that impeccable service remains the ultimate standard at this remarkable establishment.
