Yoru no Douwa

Yoru no Douwa is a poignant anthology of early one-shot manga by Konno Kita, originally self-published before being compiled into a single tankoubon volume. Infused with a delicate, magical fairy-tale atmosphere, the collection presents a series of touching vignettes that explore memory, loss, and human connection. From an elderly man reflecting on his past in "The Road Home" to a sheltered princess confronting grief for the very first time in "Garden," each narrative offers a quiet emotional resonance. Other stories follow a mature woman navigating a pivotal choice about her romantic future in "Beyer’s Waltz," and a young girl facing her uncertain tomorrow while living under the shadow of the irresponsible father she deeply loves in "The House that Waits for Spring." The anthology further ventures into the fantastical and bittersweet. In "Rattle," an old man reunites with his granddaughter within the borders of an impossible land, while "The Man Who Sells Glasses" follows a mysterious merchant who arrives in a small town peddling magical eyewear. On a lightly snowing night, a man encounters a curious little girl whose presence lingers long after their meeting. Finally, "Evening Fairy-Tales" introduces a peculiar young man who calls himself a "cat lender," using his unusual profession to gently draw out long-forgotten memories from those he visits. Together, these tales form a beautifully crafted mosaic of wonder and nostalgia.
