Neon Genesis Evangelion: ANIMA

What if the Human Instrumentality Project—the enigmatic culmination of the final episodes of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime—had never come to pass? This official light novel series explores a divergent timeline where that apocalyptic plan was thwarted, allowing Shinji Ikari and his fellow Eva pilots to survive and age three years beyond the events they once endured. Rather than dissolving into oblivion, these young defenders are thrust into an unfamiliar future, forced to confront new challenges and forge their own destinies in a world that refused to end. As the sole light novel adaptation within the legendary franchise, this alternate conclusion originally began serialization in Japan over a decade ago. It stands as a definitive exploration of what might have been, expanding the beloved universe with fresh narrative depth while honoring the psychological weight of its characters. With the classic 1990s anime reaching a global audience through its first-ever streaming release on Netflix in Spring 2019, this series serves as an essential companion piece. Whether for longtime devotees or newcomers discovering the mythos for the first time, it offers a compelling, fully realized continuation of one of animation's most iconic stories.
