Odoru Kyoushitsu

Odoru Kyoushitsu is a compelling manga anthology comprising two distinct one-shot stories that place young characters at the center of deeply serious and mature conflicts. The first story, titled Dancing Classroom, unfolds within the confines of a school where a group of students has been taken hostage by terrorists. This tense narrative thrusts ordinary students into an extraordinary crisis, forcing them to navigate a life-threatening situation far beyond their years. This particular one-shot was later reprinted in the collection Seimei no Netsuryou. The second story, Lake in Our Small Village, shifts the setting to a quiet rural town where a group of local children discovers an endangered animal. Deciding to keep the creature as their secret pet, the children form a pact to hide its existence from the outside world forever. However, as the reality of harboring a protected species sets in, they soon realize that maintaining such a dangerous secret may ultimately prove impossible. Though both narratives focus exclusively on students and young children as their primary characters, the anthology deliberately explores weighty themes. By contrasting youthful innocence with grave circumstances, the collection examines how young minds confront terrorism, moral dilemmas, and the heavy burden of secrets.
