I See Your Face, Turned Away follows the intertwined lives of four teenagers, each navigating the quiet heartbreak of unrequited love. When preserving a cherished friendship conflicts with the desire for something deeper, these young characters are left with no choice but to silently admire the ones they love from afar, watching as their affections look in another direction. Among them is Hikari, a girl who considers herself remarkably average. To pass the time, she develops an innocent habit of daydreaming about a potential romance between her beautiful friend Mari and Otani, an attractive boy in their class. What begins as harmless fantasy soon grows complicated as the boundaries between observer and participant blur within Hikari’s mind. She finds herself questioning whether she must forever remain on the sidelines of her own imagined love story, playing nothing more than the supportive best friend.
