Okusama wa Shougakusei

In response to Japan’s ongoing declining birth rate, the Prime Minister has introduced a radical new policy aimed at encouraging earlier marriages. Relying on empirical data to stay ahead of the law's full enforcement, which targets individuals aged twenty-four and older, elementary school teacher Naoto makes an unprecedented decision. He chooses to marry his own twelve-year-old student, Ichinose Haru, entering into a legally sanctioned union that defies conventional expectations. Despite the official nature of their marriage, Naoto is deeply troubled by the reality of the situation. He remains constantly fearful and anxious about the vast physical and mental differences between them, acutely aware that his wife is still just a child. The prospect of living with such a young bride leaves him overwhelmed, as he grapples with the understanding that a normal marital relationship is entirely out of reach. Rather than acting on any inappropriate impulses, Naoto resolves to navigate their unconventional arrangement with caution, dedicating himself to ensuring that Haru can experience her married life without worry or harm as they face this bizarre new chapter together.
