Kawaru Machi, Kawareru Machi, Ishinomaki feat. Jun

Produced by the Ishinomori Manga Museum, Kawaru Machi, Kawareru Machi, Ishinomaki feat. Jun is an original net animation directed by Takuya Inaba. The project serves as a cinematic adaptation of Jun: Shotaro no Fantasy World, a wordless and semi-autobiographical manga created by the legendary Shotaro Ishinomori. By translating this unique source material into animation, the production honors both the artistic legacy of its creator and the deeply personal nature of his storytelling. The short film draws profound inspiration from Ishinomaki, the hometown of Shotaro Ishinomori. It was conceived as a heartfelt tribute to the city itself, reflecting its enduring spirit in the face of immense adversity. Specifically, the animation pays homage to the ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts that have defined Ishinomaki since the devastating Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of March 2011. Through the evocative imagery originally crafted by Ishinomori, the work bridges the gap between a celebrated artist's past and his hometown's resilient present, offering a poignant reflection on transformation, loss, and renewal.
