Brunetto-sensei, Koko ni Oide Deshita ka?

Inspired by Canto XV of Dante Alighieri’s *The Divine Comedy*, this film draws its thematic foundation from the fifteenth canto of the Inferno. In the original text, the third round of the seventh circle serves as a realm of eternal torment for those who violated the natural order. It is within this punishing landscape that the poet encounters his former mentor, Ser Brunetto Latini, in a profound and tragic reunion between student and teacher. Seven centuries later, the narrative reimagines this classical encounter within the framework of a fictional modern Japan. The protagonist is no longer a medieval Italian poet but rather a feline university student named Dante. As he navigates the complexities of contemporary academic life, he finds himself living in a town that has recently enacted a strict prohibition on alcohol. This unusual societal restriction sets the stage for a modern exploration of morality, authority, and the enduring bond between a student and his mentor, bridging the gap between ancient literary punishment and present-day civic control.
