The Case Study of Vanitas

Set against the atmospheric backdrop of nineteenth-century Paris, the story follows Noé, a young vampire on a determined quest to locate the legendary Book of Vanitas. His search takes a perilous turn when he is ambushed by a fellow vampire who has been driven completely mad. Just as the situation becomes dire, a mysterious human intervenes, pulling Noé from harm’s way and successfully healing the afflicted creature. This enigmatic stranger introduces himself as Vanitas, a self-proclaimed doctor who possesses the very book Noé seeks. Wielding its arcane power with unsettling ease, Vanitas proposes an audacious and dangerous crusade: using the tome to cure the entire vampire race of their affliction. He tempts the young vampire to join him in this radical mission, presenting an alliance that promises extraordinary results but carries undeniable risks. For Noé, the proposition presents a profound dilemma. Aligning himself with a human who commands such formidable magic could prove fatal, yet walking away from the Book of Vanitas means abandoning his original purpose. Caught between caution and curiosity, Noé must decide whether he truly has any choice but to follow this unpredictable doctor into the shadows of Paris.
