Jumon yo Sekai wo Kutsugaese

Toraya Totaro is a struggling comedian whose career has hit rock bottom. While his former comedy partner has recently skyrocketed to mainstream success, Totaro finds himself left behind in obscurity. His misfortune compounds rapidly when he loses both his girlfriend and his home on the exact same day, leaving him entirely adrift with nothing to his name. In the midst of this devastating personal collapse, he crosses paths with a mysterious woman named Tayuta. Unlike the rest of the world that seems to have turned its back on him, she approaches him with unexpected warmth and friendliness. Through their encounter, Totaro is introduced to her deep passion for tanka poetry, a traditional Japanese verse form consisting of exactly thirty-one characters. As he becomes intertwined with her life and her beloved art form, the downward spiral of his existence begins to shift in unforeseen ways. What follows is a unique comedic narrative where the written word holds genuine power. By embracing the rhythm and structure of these short poems, Totaro discovers that a simple thirty-one-character verse can act as a spell capable of turning the world upside down, setting his fate on an entirely new course.
