Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut

Set in an alternate 1960s, the world is divided between two rival superpowers born from the ashes of a devastating global conflict: the Zirnitra Union and the United Kingdom of Arnack. As East and West engage in a desperate race to achieve the first crewed spaceflight, the Union initiates a covert program known as the Nosferatu Project. This clandestine operation seeks to use vampires as experimental test subjects for space travel. Though physically similar to humans, vampires are widely despised and feared by society, making them the ideal expendable candidates for such a perilous mission. Lev Leps, a dedicated Union soldier with dreams of becoming a cosmonaut himself, is assigned to oversee Irina Luminesk—designated only as N44—the vampire selected for this dangerous experiment. His orders are strictly professional, yet Lev soon finds it impossible to maintain the emotional detachment expected of him as he grows closer to the young vampire girl. Bound together by secrecy and mutual vulnerability, they face mounting political pressure and the ever-present threat of death. As the boundaries between handler and subject blur, both Lev and Irina must navigate their treacherous circumstances, leaving one ultimate question unanswered: will either of them survive long enough to reach the stars?
