Summary

This book tells the story of the devastating wars that ravaged Sichuan during the late Ming dynasty, and the subsequent resettlement of the region by immigrants from Huguang. At the end of the Chongzhen era, the country was in chaos, and Zhang Xianzhong led his Great Western Army into Sichuan, bringing war and destruction to the region. The once-prosperous land of Sichuan was transformed into a battleground, with constant fighting, killing, and oppression. Amidst the turmoil, ordinary people like Chen Laogen, a farmer, and Zhou Zhanggui, a merchant, struggled to survive. After the smoke of war had cleared, the region lay empty and desolate, with only a few people remaining. It was then that a new era of resettlement began, as immigrants from Huguang started to arrive in Sichuan, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the region's history. This book recounts the tragic and true story of the rise and fall of Sichuan, and the hardships faced by its people during this tumultuous period.
