Mountains and Rivers Refining Qi

Set in an era where the traditional Daoist orthodoxy of the Central Plains has been nearly severed, the story unfolds three hundred years after the invasion of the Northern Han Wolf Court. Having burned mountain gates, severed spiritual veins, and destroyed cultivation manuals, the foreign invaders shattered the native immortal cultivation system. The remnants of the old sects now survive as hidden lineages, scattered among military ranks, rural villages, desolate temples, academies, and forbidden geographical domains. Three hundred years later, as the Northern Han Wolf Court declines and the provinces of the Central Plains begin to draw a breath, the Eclipse Demonic Court from beyond the Eastern Sea seizes the opportunity to strike. With eerie cultivation methods, military arrays, fierce beasts, Yin-Yang arts, and demonic-script armor, the demonic cultivators completely overwhelm the fractured native forces. During the defense of Cangwu Pass, the protagonist Shen Yan is chosen by the ancient artifact spirit, the "Mountains and Rivers Demon-Slaying Record." By eliminating hostile cultivators, demonic soldiers, and the corrupted, he earns demon-slaying points to steadily restore his cultivation, deduce lost arts, ultimately rebuild the Central Plains' Daoist orthodoxy, establish a new sect, and lead the myriad lineages of the mountains and rivers in a counteroffensive against the Demonic Court.
