Chihayafuru

Chihaya is a sixth-grade girl, still too young to fully grasp what it means to be consumed by passion. Her world shifts when she meets Arata, a quiet and reserved transfer student from rural Fukui Prefecture. Though gentle in demeanor, Arata harbors a striking talent: competitive karuta, a traditional Japanese card game. Chihaya is captivated by his fierce dedication to the game and his uncanny ability to pinpoint the right card and sweep it away before opponents can react. Yet Arata is equally drawn to her, recognizing in Chihaya an extraordinary, instinctive gift for the very same game. This first volume opens the story of adolescent lives and heartfelt emotions, unfolding with all the intensity and drama of a match in play.
