The Super Harsh Story of a Mangaka

Nawoki Karasawa is a distinguished and enduring figure in the niche world of gag manga, a genre where comedic timing often takes precedence over artistic polish. Renowned for his exceptionally sharp and witty dialogue, Karasawa delivers a parody of Shinji Nagashima’s classic Mangaka Zankoku Monogatari, distinguished only by the addition of “Chou” (Super) to the original title. Like its predecessor, the series explores the aspirations, ambitions, and hardships of aspiring manga artists, but Karasawa approaches the subject with biting satire that mercilessly mocks every aspect of the profession. The result is a lewd, raunchy, and deeply cynical work that remains consistently hilarious. Originally serialized in Ikki and the Big Comic Spirits special issue “Casual” between 2000 and 2003, the series was compiled into a single volume in 2005.
