Himizu

In Japan, approximately 2,500 people die every day from various causes. While most assume they will not be among them and instead hope for unlikely fortune, Sumida desires only the ordinary. He seeks nothing more than a conventional existence: a stable job, a standard family, and a life free from both extraordinary luck and misfortune. To him, anyone who rejects this average path is foolish, destined to struggle endlessly against insurmountable odds and ultimately perish in despair. When his mother evicts his father and later abandons him to live with her boyfriend, Sumida initially believes he can maintain his desired normalcy. However, as he realizes that an average life is no longer within reach, he attempts to find meaning through the only methods available to him, all while striving to silence the dark voices that persistently echo in his mind.
