Ressentiment

Set in the near future, Ressentiment follows Takurou, a middle-aged man trapped in a dead-end job and plagued by low self-esteem. Overweight, isolated, and feeling devoid of purpose, his only solace is the occasional visit to a brothel that his meager savings can afford. His life takes an unexpected turn when a friend introduces him to "The Unreal," a virtual reality platform where users can purchase AI companions devoted entirely to them. After investing over $6,000 in the necessary equipment, Takurou acquires a virtual girlfriend named Tsukiko, only to discover that she appears to have several defects.
