Human Clock

Often cited as the quintessential example of a warped narrative born from a warped imagination, *The Human Clock* is far easier to summarize than to truly comprehend. The story once again follows Yubi Chizuo, a student who, in this installment, has also become a dropout. Confined to his family home—which doubles as a watch and clock shop—he spends his days fixated on the timepieces surrounding him. Through his endless, obsessive staring, he gradually transforms into a clock himself. That is the entirety of the plot, evoking the same surreal unease as Franz Kafka’s *The Metamorphosis*. This volume also includes the additional story, *The Cat's Mourning Suit*.
