Nearly a year has passed since Natsumi and her family relocated from the town of Onigafuchi. Though her grandmother—a native of Hinamizawa village—fears they will be cursed for abandoning the mountain region, Natsumi herself has never felt more content, happily making new friends and thriving in her school life. However, when a devastating gas explosion in Hinamizawa annihilates the entire village, her grandmother becomes convinced it is the divine wrath of the village god, Oyashiro-sama. While Natsumi's family has always dismissed the old woman's beliefs, her fervent devotion to Oyashiro-sama has now taken a deeply unsettling turn.
