The Mysterious Cities of Gold

In 1532, twelve-year-old Esteban, a foundling from Barcelona, possesses a mysterious ability to command the Sun to appear—a gift that has earned him the name "Child of the Sun." Following the death of his adoptive father, Esteban discovers that he was rescued as an infant from a sinking ship at sea. The enigmatic medallion he has worn for as long as he can remember bears a mark that points to the New World, and is believed to be linked to the fabled Mysterious Cities of Gold. Determined to uncover his true origins and find his birth parents, Esteban sets sail from Spain. His journey leads him to Zia, an Inca girl who was taken from her people years ago and who possesses an identical medallion. They are soon joined by Tao, a young castaway from the Galapagos and the last surviving descendant of the Heva Empire—the civilization said to have built the Cities of Gold. Guided by Coyolite, the radiant star depicted on their medallions, the three children venture across the uncharted territories of the New World. They press forward in search of the legendary Cities of Gold, clinging to the hope that this path will ultimately reunite them with their lost parents.
