The Animatrix

The crew of the Osiris uncovers a massive machine army preparing to assault Zion. As one member races through the Matrix to transmit the warning back home, the rest of the crew engages in a desperate last stand against an overwhelming Sentinel assault they have no hope of surviving. Humanity creates an artificial intelligence equal to its own intellect, but peaceful coexistence between humans and robots proves impossible. Tensions escalate into total war, ending in humanity's defeat and subsequent enslavement within the Matrix simulation. With the aid of the hacker Neo, he manages to break free from the system. In a virtual recreation of feudal Japan, Cis and Duo engage in a lethal combat simulation. During the most intense race of his life, a champion sprinter momentarily pierces through the fabric of his simulated reality. Afterward, he awakens in the real world with no memory of his feat and is eventually confined to a nursing home. While searching for her lost pet in Tokyo, a young woman encounters a group of children playing in a local "haunted house"—which is actually a glitch-ridden sector of their computer world. Detective Ash is summoned by a shadowy organization to track down the elusive and dangerous hacker Trinity. A team of scientists captures a robot and subjects it to a surreal, fantastical simulation. When the robot's comrades arrive and slaughter most of the research team, the captured machine and the lone surviving scientist are left stranded together within the artificial reality.
