Youkai Hunter: Yami no Kyakujin

Archaeology professor Hieda holds an unshakable belief in the existence and power of gods, demons, and other supernatural beings—a conviction he has never been able to prove, earning him the derisive nickname "Youkai Hunter" from his peers. One day, he receives a visit from two representatives of Ootori-chou, who are eager to revitalize their town's long-defunct "Demon Festival," a traditional event that has not been held for over a century. Their plan is to repurpose Hieda's academic research as the foundation for a tourist attraction, albeit with embellishments designed to appeal to modern visitors. Though deeply uneasy about the festival's bloody history and the human deaths linked to it, Hieda agrees to participate as an advisor. But when the ceremony erupts into a nightmare far more historically faithful than anyone could have anticipated, Hieda must draw upon every ounce of his scholarly expertise and personal bravery to restore order before it is too late.
