Helter Skelter

In Japan’s fashion industry, Liliko’s face is everywhere. For years, she has reigned at the peak of the modeling world, her image lending prestige to the country’s biggest brands. Yet those who thrive in that realm know that staying on top is a relentless, unending struggle. Each season brings fresh faces to the fore—younger models, new aesthetics—and survival demands constant reinvention. To preserve her status, Liliko turns once again to plastic surgery, a path she has walked before. But this time, minor adjustments will not suffice. She is determined to undergo a complete transformation, remaking every part of her body from head to toe. And so, her descent into obsession begins. Winner of the 2003 Excellence Prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival and the 2004 Osamu Tezuka Culture Prize.
