On her first day of high school, Hikaru carries on a silent dialogue with her deceased brother, speaking to him in her thoughts as she navigates this new chapter of her life. Her days are filled with ordinary, everyday experiences, but she quickly forms a close bond with a bold and unstoppable girl named Nene, who pushes Hikaru into kissing her new crush, Michiya—a boy who reminds Hikaru of her late brother. Michiya permits the kiss, but this easy consent proves to be a warning sign. As expected, he reveals himself to be a callous jerk, his true nature bearing no resemblance to Hikaru’s brother whatsoever. Meanwhile, Nene is caught shoplifting, and when Hikaru reacts with understandable distress, Nene turns on her in anger and tells her to find a new friend.
