Su Yan, hardened by her abilities, is calm and restrained, serving as a frontline shield guardian who trusts Lu Chen and excels at holding defensive lines. Jiang Ye possesses mental perception, approaches situations with rationality and precision, and acts as a battlefield scout and terrain strategist, focused on assessing risk. The narrative also features a long-term ensemble cast introduced in layers throughout the chapters, each with distinct traits and no redundant roles. The Starfire battle group of fifteen new members includes those with body strengthening and healing abilities, all of whom are granted greater power and foresight. Their growth arc is fully realized, transforming them from timid refugees into defenders of their home. The ordinary refugees—the elderly, the wounded, and the young—represent those in need of protection and highlight Lu Chen’s original commitment to safeguarding humanity. The villains are also clearly stratified: early on, scattered raiders appear; later, corpse tide distortions, a first-order peak corpse king, and armed plunderers who seize homes emerge. Each type of villain is motivated differently, avoiding any sense of sameness. Structurally, the story departs from the repetitive narration of the earlier version. Each chapter contains its own core event, with conflicts that escalate and close loops of cause and effect, ensuring consistency in character and plot. The prose adapts to the scene: battlefield passages are sharp and brief, inner monologues unfold slowly and with weight, and daily life is rendered in careful, understated detail.
